Should I Lose Weight for My Boyfriend?

Question: “My boyfriend asked me to get lipo, so I can lose weight.  I agree that I need to lose weight but I would rather go to the gym. What do you think I should do?”

First let me congratulate you on taking a step to get healthy and I want to stress healthy.  Healthy does not mean skinny or super model size. It means being an appropriate weight for your height.   I agree with you eating healthy and going to the gym would be a better method to lose weight; however, you should discuss this with your doctor first before choosing which method is best for you.

I suggest you discuss with your boyfriend the reasons he wants you to get lipo. It sounds to me that he is focusing on your appearances rather than your overall health.  If you believe this is the case then I think you should take a step back and think about if this is the type of person you want to be with for the long-term.  I am a firm believer that true love should persevere through sickness, health and poverty.
